Atomic Hands is excited to announce that we are in the process of creating our inaugural board of directors! We would like to extend an invitation to you, or someone you know, to join our organization as a board member.
Atomic Hands is a women deaf-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2018 with a mission to “foster curiosity in STEM through American Sign Language-centric resources, develop engaging STEM videos, and encourage networking among Deaf STEMists”. As we continue to grow, Atomic Hands would benefit enormously from new board members to volunteer their time, energy, and/or expertise. As a Board member, you will share the responsibility in guiding the organization’s current and future operations. This is a great opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a difference in your community.
We are currently searching for 4-6 individuals interested in the following areas:
– STEM and/or deaf education
– Outreach
– Fundraising/grant writing
– Organizational development
– Marketing and communications
– Legal and compliance
– Website development/accessibility
Board members can live anywhere in the United States. The position is voluntary based and will require the ability to effectively communicate using American Sign Language (ASL). Additionally, two-thirds of the total board must be deaf, which will influence selection. Terms are 2 years and the start date will be October 1, 2023 (the five-year anniversary for Atomic Hands!). Minimum expectations of the board of directors would include:
– Four 2-hour quarterly meeting (virtual)
– One yearly retreat (in-person)
– Run a sub-committee appropriate to your role
– 1-2 hours per week of organizing, email discussions & votes, fundraising, etc.
– Possessing the characteristics of being a self-starter, active participator, and leader
– Comply with organization’s bylaws and policies/procedures once established
