This week’s #opttoact is about gardening with native plants
Transcript: This week’s #opttoact is related to gardening! Plants that are adapted to a region are called native plants. These plants can tolerate the regional weather, grow strong roots in the soil, and are adaptable to the animals in the area. These native plants will provide food sources for many different animals such as butterflies, moths, and birds. If you are curious what plants are native to your area you can go online to the National Wildlife Foundation. You will put in your zip code and a list of native plants will show up. If you buy imported plants, be careful, because these plants tend to be sprayed with pesticides and the cost to import is often expensive. You can support your local businesses by buying plants that are native to your area and planting them in your yard. Now you can see an increased number of butterflies and birds in your yard!
