Seeking BIPOC Deaf Board of Directors for Atomic Hands

In our ongoing commitment to foster a diverse environment, Atomic Hands wants to reaffirm its stance by reaching out to our deaf BIPOC community directly in order to be confident we did not overlook anyone qualified to join the Board of Directors team. Atomic Hands recognizes the importance of amplifying underrepresented groups, and we believe that diversity strengthens our collective spirit, enhances creativity, and drives innovation. We want to encourage BIPOC deaf candidates to bring their skills, experiences, and insights to our Atomic Hands community. We received an overwhelming number of incredible applicants, and we are excited to grow our non-profit; however, we want to ensure our Board of Directors accurately reflects the diversity of our community and values.

At Atomic Hands, we always strive to incorporate a wide range of talents and expertise. Therefore, having a background in STEM is not a prerequisite; we warmly welcome individuals who can contribute their unique experiences and skills to support our mission. These experiences and skills can include marketing, fundraising, networking, and other essential aspects that contribute to Atomic Hands’ growth and sustainability.

Board members can live anywhere in the world. The position is voluntary based and will require the ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) effectively. We are seeking BIPOC deaf individuals to apply for the Board of Directors team. Terms are 2 years, and the start date will be October 1, 2023 (the five-year anniversary of Atomic Hands!). Minimum expectations of the board of directors would include:

Four 2-hour quarterly meetings (virtual)
One yearly retreat (in-person)
Run a sub-committee appropriate to your role
1-2 hours per week of organizing, email discussions & votes, fundraising, etc.
Possessing the characteristics of being a self-starter, active participator and servant leader
Comply with organization’s bylaws and policies/procedures once established
