Transcript: Today’s sign of the week is… Ecosystem! Ecosystem (slow motion). What is an ecosystem? A space where living components (plants, animals, cells, etc.) interact with each other and with non-living components (air, water, sun, etc.). All of the relationships create a complex, interconnected system, known as an ecosystem. For example, estuary is a type of ecosystem. An area where salt water from the ocean typically mixes with fresh water from rivers. As a result, estuaries are teeming with life and are a hotbed for fishing, clamming and crabbing. Abundance of food can lead to overharvesting and a subsequent collapse of the ecosystem.
