There are many STEM sign lexicons worldwide based on different sign languages. Over the year, we will celebrate this work and discuss the future of STEM sign language lexicons and their impact on STEM education and careers. A series of six events that provide those us working in this field with opportunities to come together. The first one was held last month on 1 March 2023 at Gallaudet University. The theme was “A Showcase of STEM Sign Language Lexicon From Around the World” for founders and leaders of different STEM lexicon projects worldwide. On 3 March 2023, the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) held their Annual Meeting in Washington – “The World of STEM Sign Language Lexicons”. Next is the WFD Conference in South Korea in July 2023, where we will present a paper on “Global Year of STEM Sign Lexicons”.
We are also organizing a networking event for deaf scientists and people involved in STEM sign lexicons on 5th September 2023, which will be held in Austria at Vienna Technology University, the day before the Deaf Academics Conference (DAC2023) in the same city. So it will be nice for us to get together before the conference starts; the theme will be “An international look at STEM Sign Lexicons”. We hope you will be able to join us for this one-day event. There will be presentations, discussions and networking opportunities, and we will go out for dinner afterwards. This workshop is free.
