Transcript: This week there are several signs! Our world is covered with billions of tiny invisible things. Without these “things”, we probably would not be here today. First sign is virus. Are viruses a living thing? No! They require a living thing to live inside to replicate. To do this, viruses will land on a cell and insert their genetic information which will use the cells every day components to make new viruses. When we think of viruses, we also think about bacteria. There are several signs used for bacteria, but I will show you two. How do you decide which to use? Typically any bacteria related to the body will use bacteria (sign 1) Why? Where you find bacteria in a healthy human is in the mouth, nose, lungs, stomache, and digestive system It is important to understand that of all the bacteria in the world only less than 1% are able to cause human disease. There is a group of bacteria that cause disease, but you also have a group of bacteria that will help keep you healthy through helping you to digest food or the ‘healthy’ bacteria will notice some dangerous bacteria growing and will defend the area to kill them. Remember the bacteria that cause disease is less than 1% of all bacteria. What about the remaining 99% found all over the world on the surface of things? Those are bacteria (sign 2).
